Noren (shop curtain)
It is the important face of the store that greets customers at the front of the store.
What is Noren?
Noren are cloths that are hung in front of a store or on the boundaries between rooms to provide shade, wind protection, and privacy.
Usually, the tops of several pieces of cloth are sewn together and the bottoms are left hanging as is, and then attached to the entrance of a store.
It is considered good luck to have an odd number of pieces of cloth.
They are made by sewing together three, five, or seven pieces of cloth. Then, the store name, trade name, family crest, etc. are dyed into them, and they have been used for a long time in various fields as a symbol of the store's history, with the hope of prosperity in business. They have been loved and used for a long time.
Types of Noren
There are five main types of noren.
1、Mizuhiki Noren: Food stalls, bars, etc.

The length is short, at just 40cm, and is intended to give a good view of the store's interior and products.
2、[Half-noren] Soba shops, ramen shops, etc.

The length is 57cm, half the length of a normal noren, and its purpose is to block some of the sunlight while still allowing views of the inside of the store, its products, and its situation.
3、3. [Regular Noren] Japanese restaurants, sushi restaurants, eel restaurants, etc.

The length is 113 cm, which is long enough to cover about half of the store entrance, and is used in long-established stores and other establishments that have been in business for a long time
4、[Long Noren] Inns, Hotels, and Yu Noren

The length is 160cm, which is very long, giving it a luxurious look at first glance.
5、[Sunshade Noren] Used in front of a store

It is the longest noren, measuring 210cm to 240cm in length, but its purpose is different from other noren. As its name suggests, it is used to block the sunlight.

We also accept remakes of currently used Noren. In that case, we will be able to proceed smoothly if you can show us a photo.
Authentic dyeing and fabric
We recommend 100% cotton fabric, as we value texture and feel.
Depending on the design, we use either pull dyeing or screen dyeing with reactive dyes.

Genuine dyeing has excellent color and color development, and does not damage the texture of the cotton fabric.

Basically, all the products are sewn in a traditional way.
Depending on the number of sections of the noren, each piece of cloth is sewn around the periphery, and all the cloths are finally joined together to finish.
The Kanto style is said to have the top part of the noren finished in a tear-off style, while the Kansai style is said to have the bag-stitched style.



Production example
Dyeing is common for one-of-a-kind items at shrines, temples, and stores, while printing is common for short-term use. We can provide both dyed and printed items depending on your request and purpose.
